Obasa Claims Unconstitutional Impeachment, Refuses to Vacate Official Residence

The drama surrounding the impeachment of former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, took a new turn as he continues to occupy his official residence and office, despite being removed while on a trip to the United States.

Obasa has publicly contested the legitimacy of his impeachment, calling it unconstitutional. However, lawmakers at the Assembly assert that the decision was fully in line with legal procedures, with 32 out of 40 members supporting the move.

According to an inside source, while Obasa’s aides have vacated the premises, the former Speaker remains in the official quarters.

Things will be sorted out administratively,” the source remarked.

He will vacate the residence in due course and also move from the Speaker’s office to an office assigned for him as a floor member.”

Reports from residents and commuters in the Ikeja GRA area confirm the presence of armed police officers stationed outside the residence.

This ongoing standoff follows a contentious leadership shift within the Assembly, with legal experts and political observers divided over the constitutionality of the impeachment process.

Many believe that Obasa’s prolonged stay in the official quarters may indicate deeper divisions among Assembly members, adding further complexity to the already heated political climate.
