Nigeria Declares Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Adha Celebrations

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Adha.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic holidays, honoring the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The festival is marked by communal prayers, feasting, and acts of charity.

The government has urged all Nigerians to use this period to pray for peace, unity, and prosperity in the country. It also called on citizens to reflect on the values of sacrifice and compassion that the festival embodies.

In light of recent national tragedies, including the devastating floods in Mokwa and the bus crash in Kano State that claimed the lives of 22 athletes, the government emphasized the importance of solidarity and support among citizens during this period.

As the nation prepares for the festivities, security agencies have been directed to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians throughout the holiday period.
