Nigeria and Venezuela to Establish Direct Flights to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
Nigeria and Venezuela have initiated discussions to establish direct flights between the two countries, aiming to enhance bilateral relations and economic cooperation.
The Venezuelan government, through its national carrier CONVIASA Airlines, has expressed readiness to commence operations, seeking collaboration with Nigerian authorities to facilitate the necessary regulatory approvals. This development is part of broader efforts to deepen ties between the two nations, which have shared diplomatic relations for over six decades.
The establishment of direct air links is expected to boost trade, tourism, and cultural exchange, aligning with the objectives of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) to promote intra-African connectivity. Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has set up a joint committee comprising officials from the Ministry of Aviation and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to expedite the process.
The committee’s mandate includes ensuring compliance with international aviation standards and facilitating seamless operations between the two countries. The move is seen as a strategic step to diversify Nigeria’s international flight routes and strengthen its position as a regional aviation hub.
For Venezuela, it represents an opportunity to expand its reach into the African market, fostering economic growth and bilateral cooperation. Both nations anticipate that the direct flights will not only enhance economic ties but also foster people-to-people connections, contributing to mutual understanding and collaboration across various sectors.
