Lagos Government Launches 8.1km Pipeline Project to Supply Raw Water to Adiyan Treatment Plant

The Lagos State Government has begun the installation of an 8.1-kilometre pipeline designed to transport raw water to the Adiyan water treatment plant, which has a capacity of 320,000 cubic metres per day. This project forms part of the government’s wider strategy to improve access to clean, drinkable water for residents across the state.

The announcement was made in a post on X by the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on Saturday. Wahab explained that the project involves the laying of 1600mm Diameter Ductile Iron (DI) pipes within the Adiyan premises. Upon completion, the pipeline will deliver raw water to the treatment facility, where it will be processed to meet World Health Organization (WHO) standards before being distributed to households, schools, and businesses.

In his post, Wahab stated, “Currently, an extensive 8.1-kilometre stretch of 1600mm Diameter Ductile Iron (DI) pipes is being installed within the Adiyan premises. These pipes will carry raw water to a state-of-the-art 320,000m³/day water treatment plant, ensuring that every drop complies with World Health Organization (WHO) standards.”

The Commissioner emphasised that this initiative underscores Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to enhancing Lagos’ water infrastructure. He also highlighted the critical role of the Adiyan Water Works, which includes Phases I and II, in meeting the state’s increasing demand for clean, potable water.
