The Lagos State Government on Monday commenced the reconstruction of the Oregun Theatre, a project aimed at transforming the site into a multi-functional cultural hub. This initiative is part of a broader plan to expand entertainment infrastructure across the state.
At the ground-breaking ceremony, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, highlighted the government’s commitment to investing in the creative sector. She pointed to the state’s youthful population, which makes up an estimated 60 to 70% of residents, as a key driver behind such projects.
The redevelopment of the Oregun Theatre is expected to enhance Lagos’ cultural landscape, providing a modern space for artistic expression and entertainment while supporting the state’s growing creative economy.
