FG Debunks Reports on Scrapping JAMB for Admissions
The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Ministry of Education’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, described the viral claim as false and baseless. He clarified that the post suggesting that universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education would henceforth conduct their own entrance examinations did not originate from the ministry.
Alausa urged the public, particularly prospective students, parents, and tertiary institutions, to rely only on official communication channels of the Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate and verified information regarding admission policies.
He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s collaboration with JAMB and other relevant agencies to maintain transparency, fairness, and credibility in Nigeria’s tertiary education admission process.
“We remain committed to protecting the integrity of the admission process and ensuring that merit and due process guide all admissions into higher institutions,” Alausa stated.
The minister also cautioned media outlets, bloggers, and online platforms against disseminating unverified information, warning that misinformation could cause unnecessary confusion in the education sector.
He reiterated that there has been no change in JAMB’s role, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework. Any publication suggesting otherwise, he said, is entirely false and should be disregarded.
