Ethiopian Airlines Pays NCAA Sanction Fees, Joins Full Compliance by 2025 Sanctioned Carriers
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has confirmed that Ethiopian Airlines has settled the sanction fees imposed earlier this year for violations related to consumer protection, bringing all three international airlines sanctioned in 2025 into full compliance.
Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, Michael Achimugu, announced the development via his official X account on Monday, emphasizing that the sanctions were corrective rather than punitive. “The sanctions are intended to help improve the services of the operators and not to punish them,” he said, reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to enforcing high standards of passenger care.
Earlier this year, the NCAA sanctioned Ethiopian Airlines, Kenya Airways, and Royal Air Maroc for infractions that included delayed refunds, mishandled baggage, and failure to respond promptly to regulatory directives. The sanctions were issued under Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which governs consumer protection in the aviation sector.
Achimugu highlighted that the move aligns with the NCAA’s broader mandate to safeguard the rights and interests of all aviation stakeholders, including passengers and operators. Airlines failing to comply with consumer protection regulations, he added, risk facing similar corrective actions.
The NCAA has also cautioned other international carriers, including Qatar Airways and Royal Air Maroc, to improve service delivery to passengers or risk sanctions in the future.
