Daniel Bwala, a former spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar presidential campaign, has advised the former vice president to accept his political fate and reconsider his position in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape. Bwala, who has recently aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s administration, made the remarks during a televised interview, urging Atiku to embrace reality and support emerging political dynamics.
According to Bwala, Atiku’s persistent presidential ambitions, spanning over three decades, have not yielded the desired result, and it may be time for him to step aside for younger political actors or unify forces within the opposition. He stated that political influence must eventually give way to legacy-building, especially in a changing Nigerian democracy where regional alliances and generational shifts are redefining political relevance.
Bwala also dismissed the possibility of a merger between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition factions without substantial internal reform. He emphasized that any potential alliance would require maturity, compromise, and a genuine desire to put national interest ahead of personal ambition.
The remarks have stirred conversations within the PDP and Nigeria’s political circles, with some party loyalists criticizing Bwala’s comments as premature, while others see it as a wake-up call for the former vice president and the broader opposition. Atiku Abubakar, who has contested the presidency six times, has yet to issue a direct response to Bwala’s statement.
