The APC UK Chapter successfully hosted the International Women’s Day Conference 2025 in London, celebrating the achievements and contributions of women in leadership and governance. Themed “Empowering Diaspora Women for Leadership and Nation Building,” the conference aligned with the United Nations’ 2025 global theme: “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”

The keynote address was delivered by the APC UK Women’s Leader, Hon. Taiwo Susan Jegunmah, who passionately emphasized the significance of women’s rights and gender equality in leadership.“

As a diaspora chapter of Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), we have a duty to remind our party leaders and government colleagues of the rights of women and girls. These rights are not just about equality but also about empowerment,” she stated.

Hon. Jegunmah further acknowledged the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, describing it as the most progressive blueprint for advancing women’s and girls’ rights globally. She called on Nigerian policymakers to continue prioritizing gender-inclusive policies and ensuring women’s representation in governance and decision-making.

The conference gathered notable women leaders, professionals, and gender advocates who participated in engaging discussions, leadership workshops, and networking sessions. These sessions were designed to equip diaspora women with the necessary skills and strategies to excel in leadership roles within their communities and professional fields.

A special commendation was given to the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, for her continuous efforts in promoting gender inclusivity within governance structures.

As the event concluded, Hon. Jegunmah expressed her gratitude to all attendees and facilitators, encouraging women to take active roles in political and community leadership.“Together, we can build a future where women are not only included but also lead in shaping policies and governance,” she affirmed.

The APC UK Chapter’s International Women’s Day Conference 2025 reinforced the party’s commitment to women’s empowerment, setting a strong precedent for future engagements aimed at advancing gender equality and leadership development.
