APC Isn’t The Party of My Dreams – M.I Abaga

Nigerian hip‑hop icon M.I Abaga has publicly acknowledged that his past support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) was a mistake, revealing he no longer identifies the party with the ideals he once believed it represented.

In a recent episode of the Menism Podcast, the 43‑year‑old rapper explained his motivation in 2015: disillusionment with the then‑ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and widespread corruption. “Yes, I supported APC because at that time, I felt that the PDP government was very corrupt,” he stated.

However, M.I candidly admitted the APC failed to live up to his expectations. “As a human being, no matter how much you try to be right, you will be wrong sometimes. APC unfortunately isn’t the APC of my dreams,” he confessed. He further revealed the aftermath of his political stance: “I tweeted about the thing that happened in Benue and a lot of people were saying, ‘But M.I, you supported the APC’,” underscoring how his past endorsement continues to shape public scrutiny. Shifting his focus away from political commentary on social media, M.I is now channeling his energies into creativity and youth empowerment: “I don’t complain on Twitter and Instagram anymore… the creative sector can empower millions of young people,” he said.
